In July 1997 we were once again off to Europe – this time a quick visit to Robert’s cousin Ulrich Weissler in Bournemouth, England, then onto Germany to visit friends and family, to Switzerland to re-visit our honeymoon spot of Grindelwald, and finally a foray into France to see a time-trial stage of the Tour de France. England and a Party! – May 1995
In May 1995 we were very happy to make a short trip to southern England for the 70th birthday party of Robert’s cousin Ulrich (Ulrich and Robert’s father were first cousins) in Bournemouth on the south coast. Also were able to see a bit of Cornwall, avoided Lands’ End, and visited Dartmoor National Park. Robert’s mother Claire and aunt Alla were also on the trip, which we will forever remember as precipitating the Great Egg Argument. 🙂 The following narrative is Liza’s trip journal converted from an old pdf file. A few photos (which frankly are pretty poor quality – hopefully we can find some negatives and rescan) are included as well.

In September 1992 we made our first trip to England to visit Robert’s cousin Ulrich in Bournemouth (Ulrich and Robert’s father Gerhard were first cousins). Also visited Cambridge, Cley-next-the-Sea for some birding, York, Caernarfon in north Wales, and Devon. Our longest lasting memories of this trip though may be the debacle of having our rental car locked in a garage where we’d left it for the day while we popped into London (the day before flying home!), and the subsequent traffic stop on the motorway for not keeping to the left. Yes, we can laugh about it now…
